Screening – ‘To Say Goodbye’ by Matt Richards

'To Say Goodbye' poster

‘TO SAY GOODBYE is a powerful and inspirational film about the loss of childhood, the stripping away of identity and, ultimately, the hope of reconciliation, all set against the backdrop of the Spanish Civil War.

Through innovative animation, the film tells the story of the 4000 Basque children evacuated to the United Kingdom in 1937. Forced to bid a hurried farewell to their parents, these children were told they would only be in the UK for three months. 75 years later, some are still there, forever separated from their parents and their homeland, their families torn apart and their childhood destroyed by a brutal and bloody conflict.

Through the voices of 14 of these children, now in their 80s and 90s, this tragic episode in history is revealed in a stunning animated documentary that is profound, unexpected and uplifting.’

‘Another Day of Life’ feature in production

A Spanish, German and Belgian co-production, directors Raul de la Fuente & Damian Nenow are making a film based on war reporter Ryszard Kapuścińki’s book about the trip he made to Angola in 1975.

The images are beautiful, but funny how they bear more than a passing resemblance to a certain animadoc war feature we have all seen. Is this similarity about what funders will fund, or are we animadoc makers suffering from a lack of vision?

Here’s a sweet little film from Spain…

Boys and girls who have left their hometown tell their story through their memories, family history, past adventures, and their particular sense of distance and oblivion. The past and present of these little citizens of the world is displayed in a fantastic dreamworld, without rules or prejudice whatsoever, fueled only by their words, their playful dreams, and young imagination.
This is the subtitled version.
Produced as a final project at the Masters in Animation from IDEC-Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona.
